Barbados advance in Caribbean Twenty20 beating Jamaica by 6 wickets
The efficient bowling display was well complimented by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Richards and Jonathan Carter as Barbados confirmed its place in the final of the Caribbean T20 by defeating Jamaica by 6 wickets at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Friday. Jamaica’s competitive total of 153 for 9 was easily chased by Barbados in 18.5 overs with six wickets intact.
On the day when most of the Jamaican batsmen were off-colour, Danza Hyatt was marvellous with the bat, as he helped his side post a respectable score of 153. Hyatt played an aggressive knock of 89 runs from 50 balls; on the other hand, six of his teammates could not even enter double figures (with two ducks: Wavell Hinds and skipper Tamar Lambert). Jonathan Carter led the run chase with a bludgeoning 54 off 43, taking his side home in the 19th over at the loss of just 4 wickets.
After winning the toss, Jamaican captain Tamar Lambert decided to bat first. The skipper Lambert was soon made to regret that decision as the opener Chris Gayle - struggling at the crease - departed in the third over, slashing Scantlebury-Searles to Jonathan Carter with just 11 on the board. Gayle could score only one run from 7 balls. After Gayle’s dismissal, Marlon Samuels came to join the remaining opener Xavier http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marshall-c74817 on the crease.
In the fifth over, Marshall also went back to the pavilion as he was bowled by Dwayne Smith with just 16 runs on the board. Marshall, hitting a lone boundary, scored 9 runs from 13 balls. Smith’s departure brought Danza Hyatt to the crease. A flurry of sweetly timed boundaries from Hyatt calmed the nerves of Jamaica, but the excitement was short-lived as Samuels was trapped lbw by Ryan Hinds in the 12th over. Samuels scored 16 runs from 27 deliveries.
At 46 for 3, Jamaica was desperate for a steady partnership and that was when Danza Hyatt and the wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashley-Nurse-c46329 bowled the wicketkeeper (in the 17th over). Baugh played a boundary-less innings of 11 runs from 14 balls.
Baugh’s dismissal took Andre Russell to the crease. Both http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Russell-c87177 and the fluent Danza Hyatt took the side to 142 in the 19th over. Danza, meanwhile, piled up his whirlwind half-century. Larry Babb broke the partnership of Hyatt and Russell on the third ball of the 19th over, having the bludgeoning Hyatt caught by Scantlebury-Searles.
On the last 10 balls, Jamaica lost five wickets for only 11 runs. Wavell Hinds followed Hyatt on the last ball of the same over, as he mistimed a Larry Babb delivery to Richards. Hinds failed to even open his account. From the final over bowled by Sulieman Benn, Barbados took three Jamaican wickets conceding only eight runs. Russell - after smashing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Krishmar-Santokie-c71724 was the last man to lose the wicket on the final ball of the innings. He was run out by the wicketkeeper Carlo Morris on Carter’s throw when he tried to clinch an impossible double after pushing the ball towards the third man. Benn and Babb shared two wickets each.
Barbados got off to a steady run chase as the opener Dale Richards was well in form in the semifinal game. The belligerent opener, despite losing his partner Kirk Edwards quite early (in the 3rd over), continued his assault with Jonathan Carter to drag Barbados towards the competitive but gettable 20-overs total of 153. Barbados set up an easy six wickets win over the strong Jamaicans with seven balls to spare. The whirlwind 89 from 50 balls earned Jamaica’s Danza Hyatt the man-of-the-match award.
