Barbara Haas downs Demi Schuurs in Girls Singles – French Open 2011
Austria’s Barbara Haas battled past Netherlands’ Demi Schuurs in a three set thriller to advance into the second round of the Girls Singles – Roland Garros 2011, a major clay court tournament held in France, Paris. Schuurs barely
survived the final set to lose the match with a 2-6, 7-5, 0-6 defeat on Sunday.
The Austrian took one hour and forty-two minutes to triumph over the Dutch girl and booked a second round spot at Stade Roland Garros.
Haas displayed tremendous skills throughout the match and easily dumped the Dutch. She raged into the opening set at court nine and quickly sealed the opener in thirty-three minutes. The Austrian produced a lower first serve share
but registered an impressive 68 percent win on it. In addition to this, she saved all four breakpoints and converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to clinch the first set with a 6-2 win.
Schuurs, on the other side of net, got on track in the second set. She took full advantage of the six double faults and several unforced errors committed by Haas and smacked three ferocious aces. The Dutch produced a much better
first serve share of 59 percent as compared to Austrian’s 38 percent and earned a convincing 64 percent win on it. She exchanged three breaks early on and converted another breakpoint opportunities to her advantage in the last game to seal the set by winning
seven games to five.
Schuurs lost stepped off gas in the final set and despite producing a higher first serve share, she registered a poor 22 percent win on it. In addition to this, the Dutch girl failed to convert the only breakpoint opportunity she
founded and saved zero out of three breakpoints faced.
Haas, on the other hand, dominated all over the court in this decider and after earning a spectacular 78 percent on her first serve share of 50 percent, she pocket a bagel in just twenty-two minutes.
Elsewhere, Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich also earned a victory in a three set nail biter match later in the day.
The Belarusian rallied past Chinese Hao Chen Tang in troublesome three sets at court eleven. She won the first set by breaking Chinese serves twice in forty-seven minutes. Sasnovich saved five out of six breakpoints conceded and
converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to seal the deal by winning seven games to five.
Sasnovich lost her concentration in the second set and despite converting two out of seven breakpoint opportunities to her advantage, she saved only two out of five breakpoints faced to lose the set with a 4-6 score line.
The Belarusian raised her level of game in the decider and completely outplayed Tang with her amazing skills. She saved all three breakpoints conceded and converted both breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to win the set
with an assuring 6-2 score line.
