Barbara Jardin clinches Women’s 200m freestyle gold - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Barbara Jardin of PPO clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on day three of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Thursday, March 29.
Jardin, who qualified as the fastest swimmer into the playoff, lived up to the expectations of her supporters by overpowering her challengers in the final round. With her stupendous efforts, she not only claimed the national title but also booked her spot in the national team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Her immaculate effort placed her prominently ahead of her challenger in the four-lap freestyle event as she touched the wall in a wonderful time of 1 minute and 57.34 seconds for gold medal.
Her title claiming effort remained 0.64 seconds ahead of Samantha Cheverton of PCSC, who followed her on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 57.98 seconds. The silver medallist was trailed by Brittany MacLean of ESWIM, who managed to secure third fastest spot on the podium by completing her swim in a time of 1 minute and 58.09 seconds.
The fourth best position of the 200m discipline was secured by Amanda Reason, who failed to seize bronze medal of the event as she remained 0.63 seconds slower from her former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 58.72 seconds.
Her scintillating effort was chased by Heather MacLean of VAND, who ended her swim in fifth finest place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.81 seconds.
The fifth position holder was chased by Lindsay Delmar of UCSC, who remained 0.29 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 00.10 seconds. Subsequently, Sinead Russell of BWSC settled on the finishing wall as seventh position holder as she reported a time of 2 minutes and 00.69 seconds.
The last spot of the four-lap discipline was obtained by Alyson Ackman, who hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.00 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all events while the position holders received accolades for their wonderful efforts at medal ceremony of the championships.
