Barbarians announce inclusion of Danny Cipriani and Ryan Jones against Wallabies – Rugby News
Britain based invitational rugby union team, the famous Barbarians Football Club, has handed over Barbarian debuts to the international duo of Danny Cipriani and Ryan Jones.
Barbarians, commonly known as the Baa-Baas, confirmed that Cipriani and Jones will be in their squad for the upcoming encounter against the Wallabies, in a statement released on the club's
website on Monday, September 5.
Barbarians' Chairman, John Spencer, has expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing recruitment for their annual autumn matches. Baa-Baas autumn matches include fixtures against the Springboks,
All Blacks and Wallabies.
Spencer added, “Player recruitment is going very well and we are confident that the final 22 will feature many more big names that will be making headlines in New Zealand in the next few weeks.”
Cipriani is the English international utility backs player and is currently playing his rugby for the Australian Super Rugby franchise, Melbourne Rebels. Whereas, Jones is a versatile Welsh
international second row forward, who can play at both number eight and flanker position. He represents Welsh professional Rugby Union club, Ospreys, in the Celtic league and Heineken Cup championship.
Barbarians’ officials have confirmed that the Springboks international second row forwards duo of Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha has accepted their invitation to represent them in their
autumn matches.
Additionally, Baa-Baas has already acquired the services of the Wales international fly half Stephen Jones, All Blacks international centre Sonny Bill Williams and hooker Keven Mealamu for
their upcoming encounter against the 2011 Tri Nations champions, the Wallabies.
Furthermore, the Barbarians alongside the likes of the Welsh International, Jamie Roberts, also sign up the former Wallabies captain, Stirling Mortlock for their upcoming international test
against the Wallabies.
Australian Rugby Union’s Chief Executive Officer, John O'Neill, has reiterated their commitment to play their best available unit for their November encounter against the Barbarians. However,
it’s yet to be seen how many of their players can come out injury free from the 2011 Rugby World Cup tournament.
Baa Baas will host the Wallabies at Twickenham, London on November 26, later this year.
