Barbury International Supporting Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase set for a close fight
A close battle of horseracing is expected in the Barbury International Supporting Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Newbury in England on Saturday, March 3, 2012. The winning horse will be awarded with a cash prize of £22,780.
The 2 mile 4 furlong race is scheduled to begin at 3:10 GMT and 13 runners will be seen in action in it. The names of the participants are: Aerial, Fine Parchment, Pasco, Araldur, Dave´s Dream, Mad Max, Fix The Rib, Pickamus, Rileyev, Passato, Dan Breen,
Woolcombe Folly and Crescent Island.
Out of the 13 runners, Aerial, Fine Parchment, and Araldur are likely to fight for victory today. They are all equally capable horses and have the ability to win races against the best in the business.
Alan King’s trainee, Araldur, has entered 10 chase races, winning four of them. There were only four occasions, where he failed to make into the top three. His recent form might discourage the punters over placing bets on him, but he will definitely be one
of the horses to watch out for today.
The eight-year-old gelding will be partnered by veteran jockey, Robert Thornton, who has earned 110 victories while chasing. He will be looking to make a strong impression at Newbury today.
On the other hand, Paul Nicholls will be expecting his runner, Aerial, to finish at the top of the table today. The six-year-old gelding does not have a very good strike rate in chase races, winning three out of 11 attempts.
However, he has got a golden chance of bagging the cash prize of £22,780 today, as he will be accompanied by veteran jockey, Ruby Walsh, who is in very good form these days. He has got an impressive strike rate while chasing and has won 106 of such events.
The bookmakers have also given very good odds to Fine Parchment, trained by Charlie Mann. He has gained quite a lot of experience in chase event, taking part in 21 of them. However, he has only managed to win five of them.
The nine-year-old gelding will be ridden by Gavin Sheehan, who is looking to make a name for himself in the sport.
It will be hard for the punters to select their favourite, as the top three runners are pretty much evenly matched. However, this is extremely good for the spectators, as they will be able to witness some high quality horseracing action.
