Barcelona's Future? ?

They're keeping Eto'o

Lost Deco and Ronnie

Signed Dani Alves, S. Keita, A. Hleb, G. Pique, Caceres and Henriqe

And have beat everyone of their pre-season opponents:

Hibernian, Dundee united, Fiorentina, Chivas, NY Red Bulls, Boca Juniors and Wisla Krakow

So with a promising start and a disapointing season behind them what do you think lies ahead for Barca?

Spanish Title?

UEFA Cup Title?

Copa Del Rey Title?

  1. they will be the best team in the world this year they're going to win spanish title, uefa, and the copa del rey

  2. I think they at most they can get the Spanish cup. You know real madrid is very strong.....

  3. Pre season dosent really meen anything...my team (Chelsea) lost to CSK on penaltys....then beat AC Milan 5-0 lol

i think Barca have made some very good signings in Dani Alves and Hleb , not sure if Keita was a very good move...he is good but i wouldnt have said he was Barca standard

With Barca's main opponents Real Madrid i think since they have signed only the one player Van Der Vaart they will have the same strength as last season plus some extra in VDV , maybe less if Robinho leaves.....

I can't see Barcelona winnin UEFA im afraid , Spanish Title it's always been Barca and Real anyway so thats a 50/50 , it's going to be the new manager that will win it and not the team because Barca have always had a very strong team

Copa title is probly all Barca's if they keep up consistent performances

how ever i think Eto'o's future is uncertain and i think he WILL leave at some point...but if he plays well and leaves no need to complain i suppose :)

  4. i think the pre-season is totally irrelevant to what they are up to give in the season ahead.. it does give us good signs about what barca is about this year but they still need consistency in their games... i think they need it because when they play like they want to they can crush every goddamn team on the planet!  i think what guardiola did was good.. signings are good but they need another strong winger for the left side.. and they are good to go.. we need eto'o at his best..messi at his best (which he is)..xavi (which he is) and iniesta to squash every defense that is standing in their way!!

  5. Preseason scorelines are irrelevant.

However, the style and manner in which they played is something to look at.

Against Fiorentina (a Champions League side) Barcelona looked very impressive.

But against Boca Juniors (arguably South America's best), they appeared to struggle at times.

Dani Alves is a very key signing as he's an upgrade from the 31-year old Zambrotta.

I had never really seen Pique before and I was surprised at his height. The fact that many Man Utd fans were disappointed to see him leave suggests that he must be a good talent. He needs to be because Milito will be out until November at the earliest, possibly until 2009.

Is Hleb an upgrade from Deco? Remains to be seen. I was a big Deco fan but I'm open to see what Hleb can bring before passing judgement.

But I think the biggest move during the summer was the promotion of Pep Guardiola as coach.

For the past couple of seasons the team has not looked very motivated. The successes of 2005 and 2006 probably gave the players a false sense of invincibility, and they paid dearly for it.

The handling of the situation was not helped by Rijkaard, who believes in self-regulation. With Ronaldinho openly stating that he loves to enjoy life to the fullest, Rijkaard's lack of discipline towards Ronnie for his after-hours partying eventually pushed the nerves of the supporters to the limit, especially when Dinho's production on the field began to suffer.

With the arrival of Pep comes a strict disciplinarian. He went through the Barça system from youth player to club captain and so knows what is expected of the players by the board and socios alike. From the beginning when he openly stated that Ronaldinho and Eto'o were surplus to requirements he immediately let everyone know who's in charge, and those that wish not to listen were free to leave regardless of pedigree. Hence, Ronaldinho is now at Milan. To Eto'o's credit, he was willing to take on the challenge thrown down by Pep, has performed with quality on and off the pitch, and has been rewarded with a stay of execution.

The only question of Pep remaining is of his ability to adjust tactically when Barcelona are in need of a goal.

Apart from that, the players should now be more disciplined to work together as a team, and with Ronaldinho gone from the mix, the need to prove that they can succeed without him should motivate the players.

The Copa and Champions League are too tough to preditct because anything can happen in a knock-out cup tournament. A lot depends on the opponent you're drawn to play against, the form of both clubs at the time of the meeting and the amount of injuries both teams have to adjust to.

The league was, is and always will be the priority.

If the two main players, Messi and Eto'o, can get through a season injury free, the league is theirs regardless of what Real Madrid does.

But if both miss significant time as they did the past two seasons, it will be another struggle at bringing back the league title.

Surely, it can't happen for a third straight season, right?

  6. I wouldn't put too much importance on their pre-season (and not only because most of their opponents sucked). They always had the potential to play well, but they are very inconsistent and, unlike Real Madrid, rely heavily on a couple of players and without them they are toothless. I don't see them winning la liga ( because we will :P ) and they never cared much about the Copa Del Rey, but they certainly can win the champions league.

  7. The brightest

  8. Well they either get the Spanish title or the Copa Del Rey. Real Madrid won't be motivated enough to get any trophy this year.

  9. h**l.
