Barcelona admit there is no hope of signing Cesc Fabregas
Barcelona’s director of Football Raul Sanllehi has admitted that the club’s chances of signing Cesc Fabregas are ‘dead’.
The Spanish giants have been looking to rope in the Arsenal captain since the 2009-10 season ended. However, Sanllehi has now conceded that the chances of a deal are extremely slim.
Fabregas started his football career with Barcelona, where he was a youth player. The Spaniard left Nou Camp when he was signed by Arsenal back in September 2003. After seven years in the Barclays Premier League, the midfielder decided
that it was time to return to his boyhood club. Both Fabregas and Barcelona were keen to seal the deal to bring him back to the Nou camp, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to sell his captain.
Fabregas has been hugely influential for the Gunners, and Wenger made it clear that he does not intend to let go of his star player, regardless of how much money Barcelona put on the table. After more than six months of negotiations,

Speaking on the upcoming Champions League round of 16 encounter against Arsenal, Sanllehi said, “Cesc (Fabregas) is a great Catalan player. He played for us as a kid and he will be welcome back at Barcelona for the Champions League match.
Right now, everything is dead regarding a transfer.”

However, Arsenal are on a good run in the Premier League and are challenging for the FA Cup and Carling Cup titles as well. Sanllehi knows that the Catalans will face a stronger

He added, “Arsenal are one of the main challengers for the Champions League. We acknowledge how difficult it is going to be.”
Barcelona are currently in first place in the La Liga standings, seven points ahead of their closest competitors Real Madrid.
