Barcelona after Liverpool’s Fernando Torres

Barcelona are preparing to offer Liverpool £70million for striker Fernando Torres, but the Spanish champions face tough competition from Chelsea and Manchester City to sign him.

Double-winners Chelsea are close to sealing a move for Yossi Benayoun in a deal worth £6.5million. The Israeli is set to undergo a medical this week.

Manchester United have targeted Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini as a possible replacement for Nemanja Vidić, who could be on his way to rivals Manchester City. A bid of £25million is expected to be the price Man United will have to pay for Chiellini.

United are also looking at Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer as a long-term replacement for Edwin van der Sar.

Real Madrid believe Steven Gerrard wants to leave Anfield this summer and join them. The Liverpool skipper is wanted by José Mourinho. Barcelona also want Gerrard, with new president Sandro Rosell ready to launch a £40million offer.

Another Liverpool player, Javier Mascherano, could be on his way to Inter Milan as he has admitted he is learning to speak Italian. Glen Johnson could also be on his way to the San Siro.

Man City have a difficult task to land Valencia’s David Silva, but a deal to sign Silva’s teammate Pablo Hernandez is close to being finalised.

City will also continue to court Aston Villa’s James Milner. They are also expected to complete the signing of Barcelona anchorman Yaya Touré.

Tottenham will make a bid for Micah Richards of Man City.
