The Spanish international has expressed that La Blaugrana cannot be tipped as favourites to win the Champions League yet, and that there is still a long way to go for them..
The defender was adamant that AC Milan are a difficult team to beat and could even eliminate Barcelona in this season’s European campaign.
The Nou Camp outfit are yet again set to face the Italian champions in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The first leg of the highly anticipated fixture will take place at the San Siro on Wednesday.
Many have already deemed Barca to go through to the semi-finals and eliminate AC Milan as they are clearly stronger than the Rossoneri; however, Pique is finding it hard to write off Milan that easily.
The World Cup winner has stressed that the Italian giants are a serious threat to Barcelona’s European ambitions and may cause trouble in the quarter-finals.
The two teams have already faced each other earlier in this season’s group stages and Barcelona topped their group with Milan being second.
The earlier meetings between the two top clubs in Europe were immensely entertaining and left audiences thrilled.
While addressing the press, the full-back was quoted as saying:
"You can't call us favourites, it doesn't mean anything. No team has ever won back-to-back Champions League titles. It will be very difficult. Of course we can be eliminated. Milan are one of the greatest clubs in history. But we'll give our best,
it will be a great tie."
"It has been a difficult season for me so far, after some injuries I needed the time to get into a rhythm, but I feel I'm getting there."
Josep Guardiola would want his side to repeat their heroics of the group stages, when they managed to beat Milan 3-2 at the San Siro.
