Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola avoids criticising referee after Sevilla game
Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola has refused to blame referee Miguel Lasa for his side’s 1-1 draw against Sevilla on Sunday, 13th March.
Lasa had made a few questionable decisions during the match, ultimately resulting in Barcelona walking away with just a point. There were two talking points in particular. One was the referee’s refusal to award a penalty to the Catalans after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bojan-Krkic-c7794
was fouled inside the box. The other was Lionel Messi’s disallowed goal in the first half.
The match ultimately ended 1-1, leaving the Catalans ruing two dropped points. With Real Madrid comfortably winning their match against Hercules earlier in the week, Barca’s lead at the summit of the La Liga standings has been reduced to five points.
However, Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola wisely shied away from blaming referee Miguel Lasa for the result. Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger and Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson have both landed themselves in trouble in recent weeks for blasting referees,
and Guardiola would not be drawn into making any comments on the referee’s performance lest he suffer the same fate.
Speaking after the match, the Barcelona boss said, “The referees always do their utmost. I'm a representative of the institution Barcelona. I don't want to talk about the disallowed goal of Messi. A http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605 coach doesn't discuss the referee's performance.”
Guardiola did take the time to discuss his side’s display against Sevilla, stating that he was pleased with the effort his players put in. The Barcelona manager did admit however, that a draw was not a fair result.
He added, “Overall, I'm quite satisfied with how we played. We always try to control the game, but sometimes you face a strong opponent. We put in a good performance against a great team. Maybe we deserved more than a draw after our first half performance.”
Despite the draw, Barcelona are still on course to win the La Liga crown, with second placed Real Madrid still needing to claw away a five-point deficit before they can overtake the Catalans.
