Barcelona coach Josep ‘Pep’ Guardiola has claimed that he is not looking to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.
The 19-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16 fixture at the Emirates Stadium. The youngster earned a lot of praise from both his teammates and
the opposition alike.
It was yet another impressive display by the youngster, who is tipped to be the next big thing for the England national squad. Wilshere is rapidly earning a name for himself, and many of the biggest clubs in Europe are reportedly keeping a close eye on the
teenager. However, Barcelona is not one of those clubs.
Although Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola hailed the young midfielder’s fantastic performance, he claimed that the Spanish giants were not in the hunt for his services.
Guardiola said, “He (Wilshere) is a great player - a great player for Arsenal.”
In a sly reference to the ongoing Cesc Fabregas transfer saga, the Barcelona manager added, “And in any case, (Arsenal manager) Arsene Wenger doesn't sell his best players.”
Guardiola is aware that his side faces a tough test when the Gunners travel to the Nou Camp for the second leg of their Champions League tie with a vital one-goal advantage. While Guardiola believes that his players have what it takes to turn things around,
he insisted that it was not going to be as easy to beat the Gunners as it was the last time around when Barca destroyed Arsenal 4-1 at the Nou Camp.
Speaking on the upcoming match, the Barca manager said, “Arsenal are a wonderful side. You will not hear me discredit Arsenal - they are a great side with a great coach and they will be a very difficult opponent. It will be a great game against a great team.”
The crucial encounter between the two giants of European football will take place on 8 March, 2011.
Barcelona will be favourites to progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. But with the performance Arsenal put in against the Spanish champions at the Emirates Stadium, pundits will think twice before ruling the Gunners out of the competition.
