Barcelona defender Gerard Pique wants to face Real Madrid in semi-final of UEFA Champions League

Barcelona were up against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in the quarter-final. The first of the two-legged quarter-final clearly belonged to the Catalan giants as they recorded an emphatic 5-1 victory over their Ukrainian opposition.
Earlier, Spanish club Real Madrid also recorded a comprehensive 4-0 victory over English side Tottenham Hotspur and the Los Blancos are favourites to progress to the semi-final.
Should Barcelona and Real Madrid both advance to the semi-final, it will be a mouth-watering prospect as both sides will face each other in the last four.
Pique relishes the opportunity of facing archrivals Real Madrid in the semi-final.
He said, “Everyone wants this (Barcelona-Real semi-final) because there is a lot of rivalry between the teams, Barca and Real are really good teams, two of the most important in Europe, and if we both qualify, then it will be a great game.”
Pique was among the goal-scorers for Barcelona and is delighted with his side’s commanding position in the quarter-final against Shakhtar Donetsk. However, the defender admits the tie is not over yet and his team needs to remain focused as the second leg
of the quarter-final is yet to be played.
He added, “I think we have to concentrate on ourselves. We did a great job and I think we have to focus on our job and try to do better, and if we can go to the semi-finals and we can play against them (Real Madrid).”
The margin of victory suggests that Shakhtar Donetsk were completely outplayed by the Spanish giants though that was not the case. The Ukrainian side did play some attractive football and the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luiz-Adriano-c22841 looked dangerous but an
efficient Barcelona defence kept them at bay.
Barcelona and Real Madrid face each other in the Spanish League and the Copa del Rey on 16 and 20 April, 2011 respectively. If indeed the two sides meet in the two-legged UEFA Champions League semi-final, it will mean four intriguing ‘El Clasico’ encounters.
