Spanish media recently reported that Barcelona are planning to buy the newly signed Shanghai star, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044.
There were rumours that the Champions League winner had a clause in his contract with the Chinese club which allowed him to carry out talks with the Catalan giants and that is the reason why, despite signing a 2 and a half year deal with his new club, he
was willing to part ways with them in order to join the former Spanish champions.
However, after the rumours reached their peak, Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell came out in the open and rubbished all rumours which claimed that Didier Drogba is on his way to the Catalan capital.
Even though such a rumour would be easily rubbished by any media in the world, the reason why this particular gossip caught fire was the fact that Didier Drogba performed phenomenally against Barcelona in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.
Last season, despite the fact that Chelsea were struggling in the English Premier League, their new coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo, really helped them to get through hard times, and took them to the finals of two competitions, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions
League.
Reaching the final was not enough for the Italian coach as he further helped the Premier League giants win both these competitions in order to acquire a European double.
Two of the Chelsea players, Didier Drogba and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523, managed to come under the radar of many elite European clubs as their performances against other teams in the European competition were phenomenal.
Drogba, despite his old age, showed that he still has what it takes to be a top-notch striker, and that is the sole reason why Barcelona were expected to sign the Ivorian.
However, all these rumours have now come to an end after Rosell has admitted that Barcelona will not be signing the former Chelsea man.
While speaking about Didier Drogba, Sandro Rosell said:
"I don't know anything of Drogba. If he's here he's come on holiday or for something personal. It's nothing to do with Barcelona."
Barcelona are currently interested in signing two defenders in the transfer window.
