Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes ranks 2010/11 La Liga triumph as the toughest – La Liga news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Victor-c36011 Valdes, claims that winning this season’s Spanish La Liga title was the most difficult of the five league titles he has won with the club since 2005.
Barcelona won the title after earning a point from their last La Liga fixture against Levante; Syedou Keita put the Catalan club in front in the 28th minute, but Levante striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-Caicedo-c13525, scored to level the score at 1-1.
Despite not being able to collect three points, Pep Guardiola’s men did enough to wrap up the 2010/11 league crown ahead of second placed Real Madrid.
Valdes claims that he is delighted to win the third successive league title. Furthermore, the Spaniard admits this year’s campaign has not been easy.
He said, "It has been very hard. I would say that this league has been the hardest of all (that I have won)."
Barcelona’s squad have been stretched to the limit in recent times as likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adriano-c3773 and Eric Abidal have been sidelined due to injuries. Furthermore, manager Guardiola was hospitalized in March after suffering
from a herniated disc.
The Catalans suffered heartbreak as they lost to bitter rivals, Real Madrid, in the Copa del Rey final. In addition, the Camp Nou club have been under the firing range of Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, for ‘receiving favourable treatment’ from UEFA
officials in their victory over Los Blancos in the Champions League semi-final.
Valdes has praised his side for the way they have handled criticism and now want to celebrate their domestic success.
He added, "We have fought as hard as we can and we deserve it. It has been a very difficult year and the fans know that. Now it's time to celebrate it. It has been very tough in terms of the media, but we have managed to isolate ourselves very well. We dedicate
this to our fans, who have always been by our side."
The Catalans now have their eyes on the European crown as they will be hoping to edge past Manchester United in the Champions League final at Wembley. The highly anticipated match is going to take place on May 28, 2011.
