Barcelona interested in Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale, the Tottenham left flank player, has made quite an impression on the top flight teams of Europe. Barcelona are the latest side interested in signing the 21-year-old, who has been on fire, in terms of performance, of late.
Andoni Zubizarreta, the Barcelona sporting director told reporters in an interview, “He (Bale) is an interesting footballer with a different style which could be positive for La Liga. But I need to make it clear I have not spoken to anyone.”
Barcelona have confirmed their interest, but the club maintains they have not as yet made a move for the youngster. Bale is exactly the sort of player Barcelona would like to sign; he is a promising young prospect who can be further developed into a top
class player.
Bale joined Tottenham Hotspur from lowly Southampton in 2007, for a fee of £5 million. Despite of being a defensive player, he played attacking football which helped him quickly establish himself at his new club and make him a favourite with the White Hart
Lane crowd.
His progress was disrupted by injury and pundits predicted that the player would not be able to continue from where he had left on, upon his return. However, Bale proved them wrong and was better if not the same when he made his comeback.
Bale was previously assigned the role of a left back, but due to injuries the youngster soon got the chance to show that he was capable of playing in midfield as well. In fact, the player has the rare ability to excel on the entire left flank.
He displayed his skills against Inter Milan in the Champions’ League group stages when he scored a hat-trick at San Siro. Despite of Tottenham losing the match, Gareth Bale made his mark and was undoubtedly the man of the match for the Spurs.
Bale recently signed a 5-year contract with the Spurs this May, but that has not deterred interest from other clubs. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp spoke on the issue and insisted that his star player was not on sale under any circumstances.
