Barcelona make official approach for Cesc Fàbregas
Today Barcelona have confirmed they are in formal negotiations with Arsenal over the signing of Cesc Fàbregas.
A Barcelona spokesman said: “An informal conversation with Arsenal became formal on June 1st and now an official approach has been made to the club."
The Arsenal captain spoke of his desire to leave the Emirates and play for the Catalan giants after an emotional conversation with Arsène Wenger last week, which Fàbregas regarded as the most inspiring in his life.
The 22-year-old - currently training with the Spanish national squad in preparation for the World Cup- told the media last week he insisted his future was out of his hands. “He [Wenger] told me to concentrate on my football, he told me to concentrate on the World Cup, he told me to leave it in his hands and he will deal with whatever happens in my future. And that's what I'm doing, just concentrating on football. It's not up to me any more. It's just now about Arsenal and whoever it has to be and that's it. I don't want to say anything else,” said Fàbregas.
Yesterday Barcelona playmaker Xavi said Fàbregas would be on his way to the Camp Nou. “It had to be like this. Two years ago, I said Cesc would end up playing for Barcelona, and now it is clearer than ever. He has also expressed publicly that he wants to come to Barcelona and when a player wants to move to some place he ends up going. It is clear that Cesc will come to Barcelona."
It is believed Barcelona have offered £30million, but Arsenal are holding out for a price close to one that saw Cristiano Ronaldo depart Manchester United last summer (£80million).
