Flamboyant Brazilian defenders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s row with referees heats up.
In stark contrast to Barcelona traditions, Gerard Pique lashed out against match referee, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Velasco Carballo, as the Spanish centre-back called his sending off in the 3-1 win over Sporting Gijon as premeditated.
The Catalan defender stated that he talked to the referee during the interval and believes that his ousting from the match was a result of that.
"At half-time I told the referee it was a penalty on Keita and he kept that [in his head], I have a feeling of premeditation," the former Manchester United player told reporters after the match at Camp Nou.
As a result of the berating comments made by Pique, La Liga's Refereeing Technical Committee president, Victoriano Arminio, spoke out against the stopper’s antics and asked the governing body to take serious action.
With the referee’s integrity in question, the situation continues to boil over. Sandro Rosell’s spokesman revealed that Barcelona will miss the upcoming general assembly of Spanish football federation (RFEF).
In the aftermath of the latest scandal to hit Spanish football, Pique’s teammates have come out in his support. Dani Alves voiced his belief that La Masia graduate has the right to voice his frustrations in the open.
“Talking about the referees is a lost cause,” the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 international said on Barcelona's official website. “[But] Gerard Pique has his reasons to be angry.”
On the other hand, teammate Adriano took a more subtle approach on the subject and stated that the issue is being blown over in the media.
"We always try to treat the referees fairly. We never make things difficult for them on or off the field, and a lot of worse things have gone unpunished," the former Sevilla player told reporters on Monday.
“Too much is being spoken about Gerard because he hasn't done anything ... one foul, and he complained because he thought the red card was unfair.”
“I think it's an exaggeration that they want to sanction Gerard."
As a result of his sending off, Pique will be unavailable for Barcelona’s away trip to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Racing-c40298 Santander on March 11th.
