Barcelona president Sandro Rosell claims he is still proud of his club despite Real Madrid defeat
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has said that the Catalan club can still be proud of their achievements despite the 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid.
The two Spanish giants were up against each other in the Copa del Rey final and a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 goal in the first half of extra time enabled the Los Blancos to win the Spanish Cup after 17 years.
The teams were evenly matched. Real Madrid controlled the first half of the game whereas the second one was dominated by the Catalan club but neither team could score in regulation time.
Defeat in the Copa del Rey final have ended Barcelona’s dreams of claiming the treble in this ongoing season. However, Rosell stressed that they can walk away from the match with pride.
He told Barcelona’s official website, “We are not going away with our hands empty, We can take away plenty of pride, having played some great football. I am happy because of what the players have done and especially for the fans, who set a great example.”
Furthermore, Rosell stated that the final could have gone either way but one side had to lose and unfortunately for him, it was Barcelona. He added that being able to accept defeat with grace will benefit his side.
Rosell said, “They scored a goal, we could just as easily have done so, and it was us who had to lose. But you can also learn from defeats and such pride will help to make Barca even bigger.”
Barcelona can still claim silverware at the end of the season as the club are on top of the La Liga standings and have an eight-point lead over Real Madrid. Moreover, the club are through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League where they face the
Los Merengues again.
Rosell has urged his club to put the defeat behind them and focus on the remaining competitions. If Barcelona can win the two remaining competitions, they will certainly redeem themselves in the best possible manner.
