Barcelona to hold the final pre-season test session of 2011 Formula 1 season
After a lot of controversy and confusion, it seems that the FIA has finally given its verdict about the season opening race and the final pre-season test session which were expected to take place in Bahrain.
The final pre-season test session is now going to take place in Barcelona instead of Bahrain according to the FIA.
Initially, it was scheduled to take place two weeks before the 2011 Formula 1 season’s start but since Bahrain is going through a tough time politically and there is a lot of social unrest in the country, it seems that holding a race in Bahrain in these
circumstances is obviously not going to be safe.
As a result, it seems that the Formula 1 fans will have to wait for another two weeks before the season 2011 Formula 1 season begins. The FIA has announced that the first race of the season which was expected to take place in Bahrain has been cancelled and
the season will now start on March 27, 2011 instead of March 13.
The decision regarding the final pre-season test session was referred to the Formula 1 teams for some sort of suggestions. After holding a meeting following the 3rd pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona, the teams revealed that
the most practical venue for the final pre-season test session would be Barcelona as the track is quite versatile and challenging which enables the teams to test all the aspects of their respective cars.
“They've got a little bit more time, but they haven't got any more mileage because it's still only one four day test before the first grand prix that will now move to Melbourne. Time is a little bit more in hand but in terms of mileage on the track that
is exactly the same,” said Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner.
This decision is definitely going to disturb the teams’ planning but the teams will now have more time up their sleeves and since the 2011 Formula 1 season has been delayed for another two weeks, they are going to have a lot of time to work on their new
cars. This would definitely help the teams to ensure better results in the upcoming season.
Other than that, the FIA must be extremely disappointed with the current outcome as it was expected that the FIA would hold 20 races in a single season for the first time in the history of the sport.
However, the FIA is satisfied with its decision and it would be interesting to see how the teams plan the upcoming season keeping in mind the current scenario of the sport.
