French defender, Eric Abidal, scored Barcelona’s winning goal against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu and reflected his delight in the post match conference.
The left-back was ecstatic with his goal scoring antics and reflected that he is happy to be a part of the team’s cause. Abidal scored the winning goal 11 minutes from time as Real Madrid were consigned to yet another defeat at the hands of Barcelona.
Abidal reminisced about his previous cup goal in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and stated that it feels great, wherever and whenever you score a goal.
“The cup is important and I am a player for the cup," he pointed out. "I only ever scored in the French Cup and it's the same here too!"
The experienced stopper opined that their win away from home is very important and will go on a long way in helping them progress to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.
Abidal added that they cannot rest on their laurels and will have to be ready for the return leg at the Camp Nou.
"We have won a big game away from home that we wanted to win,” he told Spanish sports daily, AS.
“But we can’t look back because it will be another tough game [in the second leg]."
Abidal accepted that Jose Mourinho’s strategy was different from what they had anticipated, and it was difficult to break Madrid down in the first half.
However, he praised Barcelona’s winning mentality and never-say-die attitude, as they came back from a goal down in the first half to take the match.
"They pushed hard and had a five-man defence," he mused. "The system was different but we played our game.
"At the beginning we had difficulties, but we played very well in the second half."
Abidal recently tied his long term future with the Catalan club and pledged that he will do everything within his human capabilities to help his side.
