Barcelona’s Pedro wary of Arsenal threat in Champions League
Barcelona midfielder Pedro is wary of the threat Arsenal pose to his side’s Champions League ambitions this season. The Spanish giants breezed past the Gunners in the same fixture during the 2009-10 campaign; however, Pedro believes
that the Gunners will be a more dangerous team this time around.
Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final last season, but the Catalans completely decimated the Gunners in the second leg at the Nou Camp. The Spanish giants brushed
Arsene Wenger’s men aside, winning 4-1 on the night, and 6-3 on aggregate.
Barcelona were the better side in all departments during their previous meeting, but Pedro believes that the gulf between the two teams is not so wide anymore. With the form Arsenal are in nowadays, the Barcelona midfielder believes
that the Gunners have a very good chance of avenging their defeat in last year’s tournament.
Speaking about the upcoming Champions League encounter, Pedro said, “They (Arsenal) are in very good form. They have great players, especially up front. They have Cesc and (Robin) Van Persie, who is in very good form. They are very physical and strong, and
their fans will help them a lot. It will be a nice game, open, and one where we (Barcelona) hope to get a good result."
Barcelona will travel to London to contest the first leg of the fixture, while the second leg will once again take place at the Nou Camp.
Pedro added, “We're going out to win the game. Getting a decent result in the first leg is always good and we hope to do that and finish it off at home."
Once again, all eyes will be on Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, whose long-drawn transfer saga has been the subject of much media attention. Fabregas has made no secret of his desire to rejoin his boyhood club, but manager Arsene Wenger is opposed to his
move back to Barcelona.
However, the Spaniard will not be taking it easy on his former colleagues when the two sides clash on Wednesday, 16th February.
