Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola wary of Manchester United threat – UEFA Champions League news
Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola, has admitted that Manchester United pose a real threat to his side’s Champions League ambitions this season. The two clubs will go head-to-head in the final of Europe’s biggest club competition on May 28.
The encounter between the two giants promises to be a thrilling affair. Manchester United and Barcelona are the Champions of their respective leagues, and many a pundit will think twice before choosing a favourite amongst the two. Some would argue that Barcelona
have the edge, especially since they defeated the Red Devils comprehensively in the 2009 Champions League final in Rome.
However, manager Pep Guardiola is wary of such claims. The Barca boss believes that the current United squad is much stronger than the one his side faced two years ago in Italy, and he is expecting a much more difficult contest this time around.
Guardiola sees similarities between Manchester United and Real Madrid. He claims that the Red Devils are as dangerous on the counter-attack as their La Liga rivals.
Speaking on the upcoming encounter, Guardiola said, “Manchester United are extraordinarily strong, very similar to Real Madrid. They are a hard-working side and it's very hard to hurt them. We have to be very careful because they can score against you on
the break.”
He added, "We have to know how to interpret the final, depending on how they play, and play the game on our terms."
But whether they win or lose, Barcelona have already proven themselves, according to Johan Cruyff. The football legend believes that a second Champions League final appearance in three years proves that Barcelona is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/The-Strongest-c40725 club in the entire continent,
if not the world.
The Dutchman wrote, "Whether you win or lose at (the Champions League final in) Wembley, your presence in two Champions League finals, as well as a semi-final (last season), corroborates the football hegemony in the league and abroad.”
