Barcelona’s Team of the Decade – Part 2
Xavi Hernandez: Centre Midfielder
Xavi Hernandez is believed to be the boss on the field and most say that he is the key element on the field that keeps everything up and running.
Xavi is most definitely a football legend and most believe that he is the all time best Spaniard to have ever played football. Xavi led the team to glory when the national team faced decades of failures.
Xavi Hernandez is most acclaimed for his accurate passes, his vision, and these things add up to make him one of Spain’s and Barcelona’s most vital players. As he is the player that makes the attackers like David Villa and Lionel Messi move to such great
heights.
Andrés Iniesta: Centre Midfielder
Andres Iniesta is Xavi's partner on the field and they make up one of the deadliest mid field duo’s out there; this partnership always brings out the outcome of the match for Spain and Barcelona.
Iniesta has some very unique and extra-ordinary skills, he passes the ball, has countless techniques, and control over the ball. He is an amazing dribbler, and adds class to the game.
Iniesta does not score goals that much but he is the type of player that posses the ability to shine and score the turning-point goal, when ever needed.
He defined his career with goals like these, for example in the World Cup final against the Netherlands and against the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
Rivaldo: Attacking Midfielder
At the start of the new millennium Rivaldo was one of the players who was single headedly carrying the whole team forward. He made numerous one man show games and was a glorified figure at Camp Nou.
One of his most famous one man performances is in a match in 2000-01 season against Valencia. It was the last match of the league and Barcelona needed the win to move onto the Champions league rounds.
Rivaldo went into action and scored a hat-trick and the third goal of the match is one of his most skilled and best goals in this attacker’s history.
However, Rivaldo left Barcelona in 2002 and is still missed by most fans. In the 2002 World Cup Rivaldo and Ronaldo took Brazil to the title win and most argued that Rivaldo should have been awarded the best player award in that tournament.
Ronaldinho: Left Winger
Ronaldinho came to the club right after Rivaldo left and swiftly became the chief in the team. He was surrounded by immense talent, and he led the team in two amazing seasons.
Ronaldinho’s performances in the 2004-06 seasons were just inspirin, and he was considered to be the best player in the world at the time.
The player did lose it after 2006 but Barcelona is eternally indebted to the player.
Lionel Messi: Right Winger
This was a very obvious and predicted choice, as Lionel Messi is one of the skilled and talented players of his generation. The player is only twenty three years old and is believed by most as one of the best footballers in history.
He has been called to have ‘other-worldly’ goal scoring skills, and is a brilliant playmaker, and is almost an unstoppable force on the football field.
The player has won almost every single title there is to win except for the World Cup title and is on route to go down as the all time best player in history.
Samuel Eto'o: Centre Forward
Samuel Eto is an underrated legend. Eto was also a part of the team that brought the grandeur back in Camp Nou along with Ronaldinho but Ronaldinho seemed to get all the attention.
He was a key player of the squad and is still playing. He has scored thirty six goals so far and links up with the likes of Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi.
In what was later called as the worst deal that Barcelona has ever made, he was traded against Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2009 and the team will never be the same without him. However, this is for sure, that this player goes down in the books as a Barcelona legend.
