The Amsterdammers sporting director Marc Overmars reveals that his side is keen to lure the Barca youngster to Amsterdam Arena on a season-long loan deal.
Ajax Amsterdam sporting director, Marc Overmars, has expressed confidence that his side will be able to sign Barcelona’s Marc Muniesa on a season-long loan deal.
The Eredivisie champions are in search of a new central defender following the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814 to Tottenham Hotspur, and the club see the 20-year-old centre-back as a perfect replacement for the Belgian stopper.
The young stopper, who has been plying his trade with the Catalan giants since the summer of 2009, has a contract at Camp Nou that runs until the summer of 2013.
Reports indicate that the Barca management are currently locked in talks with the Spanish defender over a new contract that will prolong his stay in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
Overmars, who was recently appointed as the new Ajax’s sporting director, has revealed that his side will most probably succeed in securing the services of the youngster on temporary basis.
“Barcelona will meet with Muniesa on Tuesday to discuss a contract extension. As soon as that has been taken care of, a move to Ajax is an option. He is open to a transfer. We want to sign him on a one-year loan deal. I'm awaiting
a phone call from Barcelona now”, the Amsterdammers cheif was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
The defending Eredivisie champions earlier earmarked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niklas-Moisander-c27919 as the possible replacement for Vertonghen. However, it seems unlikely that the Amsterdam giants will be able to
lure any one of them to Amsterdam Arena, as both centre-backs have a mammoth asking price.
Muniesa, who has represented Barcelona in two matches, has played 70 games for Barca B since making his debut in the 2009/10 season. The central defender has gained plenty of experience while playing for the Barca’s second team
and training with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordi-Alba-c19111, and his arrival at Amsterdam Arena will certainly boost the Amsterdammers defence.
