Barcelona’s third defensive setback: Adriano out for four weeks due to a torn right thigh muscle
The Barcelona full back, Adriano, is expected to be out for four weeks after picking up a thigh injury during the Copa del Rey final.
After losing out to their bitterest rivals Real Madrid, in the Copa del Rey final on Wednesday, Barcelona received another bad news. The newly signed Brazilian full back from Sevilla, Adriano, is not going to be available for the Champions League semifinals
and around three to four La Liga matches.
Adriano Correia impressed the fans throughout the season. The Brazilian man did not feature much in the first half of the season but he was able to impress whenever Josep Guardiola needed him in the first team.
The club captain, Carles Puyol, missed out most of the second half of the season due to his tendonitis problems in the left knee. The Frenchman, Eric Abidal, replaced Puyol in the centre back role while Adriano played on the left to replace him.
Even with Maxwell available, Josep Guardiola trusted Adriano more than the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan fullback.
Barcelona has had many defensive issues this season. With Carles Puyol missing out on a few games, his replacement in the centre back role, Eric Abidal, suffered from a Liver tumour and is currently resting.
The Catalan giants now have http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Busquets-c33048 available in the centre back role and Maxwell in the left back position.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maxwell-c25051 could not prove himself in the UEFA Champions League while playing against the Premier League side, Arsenal. The Brazilian full back was simply awful in the defensive role and was not very confident while moving up the flank.
With Maxwell not quite up to mark, the Catalan coach decided to give a test run to the “other” Brazilian full back, Adriano.
Adriano Correia, who arrived from Sevilla during the start of the season, was able to give his best while performing against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League.
Adriano was not only like a brick defensively but also impressed while moving up the flank. During the game, the Brazilian man was able to hit the cross bar from an unusual angle.
The creative left back is now going to be missed by Barcelona for about a month.
With Eric Abidal and Carles Puyol missing out from the first team, Adriano has joined the injury list. Up front, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bojan-Krkic-c7794 is also missing because of a groin injury that he picked up two weeks earlier.
As reported, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adriano-c3773 is going to be out for at least four weeks.
The Brazilian was substituted on Saturday while playing against Real Madrid in the La Liga clash. Despite the injury he picked up, the Brazilian full back was still risked against the Los Blancos in the midweek Copa del Rey Final.
Around the 70th minute, Adriano came off to get replaced by Maxwell and the club’s medics told the press that he is going to be out because of a torn right thigh muscle.
Adriano became an integral part of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s first team. However, with him out, Maxwell is going to be joining the first team.
Eric Abidal is still trying to make a return to the team and is training with the squad. The Frenchman might be able to play in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal.
Barcelona is definitely going to miss the Brazilian full back. The good news is the fact that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carles-Puyol-c8331 is back into training and might be able to feature in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid.
