  1. Each time you speak with someone at the company they go into your account. Each time they access your account they leave what is known as a footprint. This footprint registers their ID, date and time of access. They must for Data Protection reasons leave a note explaining why they were in your account and what you discussed etc. So, whenever a letter is sent out, it is done throught the same process. Legally they are obliged to supply you with all notes on your account when requested. Simply put, ask them for another copy of the letter and then escalate the issue with them. Also, phone Citizens advice and consumer rights, ensuring you get your calls logged and get a case reference. That said, sometimes with these things the insurance has to be cancelled seperately. Good luck.

  2. contact them in writing - keeping the letter on file!! stating the date you closed the account and that you have not received any statements since closing the account on such and such a date.

State you will not be paying the balance that they are chasing. Also, let them now that if you receive anymore phone calls or letters chasing the amount, then you see no other way to solve the problem than to contact the Financial Ombudsman

    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/

    to sort out the problem.

Also, tell them you will contact local media with the story and that you will be demanding a refund of all loss of income and expenses (ie - telephone calls, petrol used).

This may well work - it did for me when I had a dispute over a closed account with Abbey - they also sent me £70 as an apology.

PB - don't be to greedy with a settlement figure if it gets to that point.

    Good luck!!

  3. send them a copy of the letter you received in june07

and just dont pay the 56 quid

  4. If you know the letter was sent in june then if you phone thier customer services they should have a note of it on your file. Failing this write to them, explain the situation, be polite and keep a copy and of any replies. Let them know that you are prepared to go to court, if necessary ( they will probably back down at this stage ) Also check to see if you have the itemised bill from when you called them to cancel the account, from that you can work out the time/ date of the call.

Good luck, I have been there before.
