Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, Bryans versus Lukas/ Leander doubles match preview
The number one duo of Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan from the United States of America will take on Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes, a fourth seed pair, in the first doubles match at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Wednesday.
The Americans lead their overall head-to-head series at 4- 1. They previously met here in the round robin stage back in 2009 where the Bryans eventually won it in two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4.
Last year’s Barclays ATP World Tour winners are the number one side on the sixth occasion in the last eight seasons, highlighted by a final mark of 11-0 on the tour.
The twin American pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan started their 2010 campaign by playing at the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open in Melbourne. They did well to make their way into the final where they got the better of Nestor-Zimonjic in three
sets to pick up a title in the end.
A month later, Bob along with his brother Mike won in Delray Beach, beating Marx-Zelenay and thus became the first pair in the Open Era to record six hundred match victories.
During the spring clay-court circuit, the top American tandem continued their impressive run of form and successfully defended their trophy in Houston, surpassing Huss-Moodie, which was followed by another title victory in Rome.
By virtue of their trophy in Rome, Mike and Bob also managed to equal the Woodbridge-Woodforde’s record of sixty-one tour level crowns.
In the next two major events, their winning snap ended as the Americans were bundled out in the second round at the French Open and quarter final round at Wimbledon.
Both of them once again regained form and later picked up their sixth Los Angeles crown back in August with a three setter victory over Butorac-Rojer.
Seeded number one to win the title in London, the United States tandem after suffering a quarter final exit in Washington, started their hard court season with a title win at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Cincinnati where they brushed aside Bhupathi-Mirnyi
in the finals.
At the year’s final major, the United States Open in New York, the 32-year-old Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan grabbed their ninth Grand Slam crown and third United States Open title without even missing a single set to get past the sixteenth seeded pair of Bopanna
and Qureshi.
Bob also won the mixed doubles title, teaming up with Huber and thus registered his name as the first contender to win both the doubles and mixed doubles at the United States Open in a single season since Kevin Curren back in 1982.
The Americans are recently coming off their fourth career title in Basel.
The Indian-Czech duo of Paes and Dlouhy, on the other hand, made it into the season finale in London on the third occasion in a row. They have so far played in a total of sixteen competitions as a pair, out of which they won a single ATP World Tour crown
and advanced into four other title battles, including the French Open in Roland Garros.
They opened the year with a finalist run in Brisbane International before losing at the hands of Chardy-Gicquel and closed the first month with a quarter final showing at the Australian Open.
In February, they reached the final in Dubai where Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes were toppled by Aspelin-Hanley in straight sets. However, the defeat didn’t affect their performance as the pair went on to win an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami title a
month later after knocking down Bhupathi-Mirnyi.
Seeded number four to win the title at the prestigious event in London, Lukas along with Paes next lost three consecutive opening round clashes in Rome, Barcelona and Monte-Carlo before posting another impressive performance by reaching the semi final in
Madrid and final in Paris.
They are recently coming off their quarter final run at the BNP Paribas Masters Men’s singles tournament in Bercy.
