Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, Novak Djokovic versus Andy Roddick preview
World number three Novak Djokovic will take on Andy Roddick from the United States of America in the second singles match of the day at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
Roddick is ahead of the Serbian on their rivalry, as he leads the pair’s overall head-to-head series at 5-2. After losing their opening two clashes, the American has completely dominated since the beginning of last year.
The professional tennis ace from Serbia, Novak Djokovic, comes in with a win loss mark of 57-17 on the season. The 23-year old opened his account at the elite eight man field in London with a two setter win over Tomas Berdych on Monday. The final match score
was 6-3, 6-3. The Serbian blasted a total of five aces and broke serve thrice to cruise past his opponent.
Currently ranked number three in the South African Airways ATP list, Djokovic, remained at number two for twenty-six weeks in 2010. He started his 2010 campaign with a quarter final showing at the Australian Open in Melbourne, followed by a semi final effort
in Rotterdam before losing at the hands of Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets.
The right hander won his first title of the year in Dubai after getting the better of Mikhail Youzhny in two sets. His other season highlights include a title victory at the China Open in Beijing, runner-up appearance at the US Open in New York, semi final
effort in Rotterdam, ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Monte Carlo, Wimbledon, Toronto, Shanghai and quarter final showing in Rome, Australian Open, Belgrade, French Open and Cincinnati. The top ranked Serbian is recently coming off his third round exit at the BNP
Paribas Masters in Bercy.
The 28 year old Roddick, on the other hand, stands at 0-2 this week in London as the American has lost his first two round robin clashes at the ATP World Tour Finals. He lost his opening match at the hands of Rafael Nadal in three sets on Monday. The final
match score was 3-6, 7-6, (5) 6-4. The Texas resident was next defeated by Tomas Berdych in two sets on Wednesday with a score line of 7-5, 6-3.
The highest ranked American is playing at the prestigious event in London on the eighth occasion in his career. He has so far reached the semi final stage thrice back in 2003, 04 and 07.
World number eight Roddick captured two titles in 2010 at Brisbane International, beating Radek Stepanek and ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami, thrashing out Tomas Berdych in the finals in straight sets. His other season highlights include a runner-up effort
in San Jose, Indian Wells, semi final appearance in Atlanta, ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Cincinnati, Basel and quarter final finish in Basel, Australian Open, Memphis, Tokyo and ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Paris.
Roddick surpassed Djokovic back in 2009 at the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Montreal Masters. When they faced each other in Cincinnati earlier this summer, the American earned another victory and has an eight set winning streak going versus the former
World number two.
However, Andy looked passive in his last encounter versus Tomas Berdych as perhaps the right hander was deflated following a close defeat to Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic therefore, enjoys an edge over Roddick in this match considering his current form and is likely to bounce back and take the second position in Group A as the Serbian has been playing better than his opponent at the season finale this year.
