Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals 2010: order of play on Tuesday
The ATP World Tour Finals, one of tennis’s most prestigious events, have been underway since the 21st of November and will proceed in round robin play for the next week, concluding to crown a new champion on the 28th of November. The
tournament is the fifth most important event in the tennis world, second only to the four Grand Slam events.
The matches commenced on Sunday, with Group B going first and Group A participating on Monday. The order of play for Tuesday’s matches begins at 12:15 pm in the afternoon, with Group B combating each other.
The singles matches will commence with Roger Federer and Andy Murray battling it out against each other, followed in the evening at 6:15 pm by Robin Soderling vs David Ferrer.
The first singles match of the day will have World Number 2 Roger Federer battling it out against current World Number 5, Andy Murray. This match is expected to be one of the major highlights of the tournaments.
Both players kicked off the tournament with great starts, Roger Federer saw off David Ferrer in straight sets, defeating the Spanish player 6-1, 6-4. Andy Murray, who seems determined to prove himself in this event, obtained a similar result against Swede
Robin Soderling with a final score line of 6-2, 6-4. This victory was very personal for Britain’s number 1, Murray, who had the World Number 4 slot taken from him by Soderling last week.
Federer against Murray could be a toss-up in either direction for both players. Murray, however, has the advantage of playing in his home country at the O2 Arena in London and also has an 8-5 winning head-to-head record against his Swiss opponent. The fact
remains, though, that the Maestro has been playing in top form and beating him will not be a breeze.
Robin Soderling and David Ferrer will challenge each other in the second match of the day, and the match is expected to be fiercely competitive.
Although, Soderling entered the event still cruising on his first Masters victory at Paris, he was quickly shot down by Murray. Ferrer was also shot down by Federer in less than two hours. The opponents were both beaten by the two players, who will precede
them on Tuesday, and both need to win this match in order to hold any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the event.
Where the doubles events are concerned, Tuesday’s matches will begin at 12:15 pm in the afternoon with the first challenge involving Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes taking on Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner.
Both these pairs began the tournament by losing their opening matches, and it will be a competitive match for both as they seek a way to make an impression and stay in the tournament.
The second doubles match will be held in the evening at 6:15 pm between the World’s Number 1 doubles team, Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan, who will take on Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.
Both these teams emerged victorious at their first matches, and will probably be hoping to repeat the performance in order to make the best of their chances to participate in the semi-finals at the end of year event.
