Barclays ATP World Tour Finals: Swiss Tennis Maestro Roger Federer produces a gem
Switzerland, which was traditionally famous for its top-of-the-line watches and mouth watering chocolates, now has a new identity. Yes you guessed it right! I am talking about the Swiss tennis maestro, Roger Federer, who is now considered to be the best tennis player ever. Tennis legends, experts and critics, all agree in unison, when Roger Federer is called a living “tennis” legend. Federer, who holds the record for the highest number of grand slams, by any individual, has been suffering from a slump in form over the past ten months. The critics and the tennis guru’s had started to write him off but after tonight’s performance, he proved that he is the greatest ever and is here to stay.
Federer went into the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, played here at London, with a poor record against the Spanish tennis wizard, Rafael Nadal. With 6 loses in the last seven matches against Nadal, people started doubting Federer’s caliber. This was the 18th final between the classy tennis players, only second best to the tennis legends Ivan Lendl and John McEnroe. They played 20 finals against each other. This record, is about to be broken, by these two dynamic contenders.
This is the Swiss’s fifth victory at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. With this win, the maestro also denied Nadal, to end this year on a winning note. This was Nadal’s best year. He won three, of the four major grand slams and also got ranked as the number one player, in the ATP rankings.
The match started in front of a jam-packed crowd. Federer took the first set by storm, by playing a marvelous combination of back-hands and fore-hands. As usual his serves were top-notch, making it very difficult for Nadal to stand up to him. Federer produced a total of 14 winners in the first set showing his aggressiveness and comfortably took the first set. During the second set, it was Nadal’s turn to show, why he is the current number one. Nadal played really well in the second set, making sure that he extended the match to the third, and final set. Federer, who was in no mood to give up that easily, played some really good tennis in the second set as-well. Both players displayed some really fine tennis. After dropping the second set Federer replied with his full arsenal, blowing away the Spanish wizard. The tennis GOD took the set by storm and the crowd was really honored, to watch this display of tennis. Nadal never looked comfortable in the third set and eventually gave-in to the storm, which was generated by Federer. The match ended with a score-line that no one predicted, at the start of the game.
The final score line was Roger Federer def Rafael Nadal 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1. This win ends his losing streak against Nadal. Federer, who lost to Nadal the last time they played in Madrid, looked extremely jubilant and showed the emotions, that he is famous for showing. This marks the end of 2010, on a winning note for him. Now, Federer is aiming to start his next year with a bang, by winning the Australian open. Federer said that he wants to win the French open one more time before he retires. We hope that he continues to play like this and accomplishes to win the Roland Garos for the second time in 2011.
