Barclays Premier League - Part 1: Countdown To The Transfer Window

The summer 2010 Transfer window closed on Tuesday, 31st August 2010. From here on all the clubs in Europe have to be content with the players that they have.
Some clubs have done really well for themselves and there is no doubt that they will be more than content till the next transfer window opens. This list includes the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea as they have made some exceptional signings.
Clubs like Manchester City have spent something around a hundred and thirty million pounds and still the club seems to be looking for another star goal keeper. This is definitely a worrying factor for other clubs in the English Premier League.
It is not clear why Arsene Wenger has not signed a new goalie for himself by now but here is a list of deals that should have been made in the last twenty four hours of the window.
Arsenal
In:  Laurent Koscielny, Marouane Chamakh, Sebastian Squillaci, Phil Roberts, Kyle Ebecillo.
Out:  Jay Simpson, Eduardo, Sol Campbell, Luke Ayling, Mikael Silvestre, William Gallas, Fran Merida, Phillipe Sanderos, Kyle Bartley, Alie Sesay, Francis Coelquin, Pedro Coelho, Sanchez Watt, Sam Byles, Luke Freeman, James Dunn, Rhema Obed, Kerrea Gilbert.
It's very confusing when considering the fact that Arsene Wenger still keeps Manuel Alumni between the goal posts. With all the cash that the club has been throwing around it was expected that a replacement would be found by now.
The Gunners are not expected to win any major trophy this season, even though they have brought in a lot of new recruits, they have not found a new goal keeper. This raises questions about Arsenal’s boss Wenger stating if he is oblivious to the need of a good goal keeper in his team.
Shay Given’s move to ‘the Gunners’ looks kind of unlikely as according to his people, the only place that they see Given ending up is at Fulham. When returning to Fulham Shay Given will also return to the man who initially sent him to Manchester City, Mark Hughes.
Though it has been confirmed that the athlete has no intention of moving to ‘The Gunners’ and neither does Given’s club want to sell him.
The only Premiership option left for The Gunners boss is to acquire Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer. Two offers were sent by Arsenal for the thirty seven year old which were later rejected and it now seems that the clubs will be considering making a deal on the three million mark.
Asmir Begovic is another interesting prospect for Arsenal but Tony Pulis from Stoke City does not want a deal made for less than ten million pounds so that makes Begovic’s chances of moving highly unlikely.
The last man that could be an added Gun to the Gunners would be Michael landreau but things seem unclear on his end.
Aston Villa
In: Stephen Ireland
Out: David Bevan, Nicky Shorey, Jack Dyer, Wilfred Bouma, Marlon Harewood , Andy Marshall, James Milner
Ever since Randy Lerner moved back from Aston Villa, the club has come down a bit, as far as transfer fees in the Premier League are concerned.
Right now the best chance Aston Villa has for bringing in new recruits is for them to start trading with Tottenham Hotspurrs by offering them David Bentley, Jermaine Jenas and Robbie Keane for Ashley Young.
Harry Redknapp the Spurs manager, is believed to be offering any mixture of the three mentioned players and above that, more money for Ashley Young. This makes one wonder why Aston Villa didn't make a similar deal with Manchester City for James Milner, considering the fact the Man City is already jam packed with players.
