Barclays Premier League – Squad of Liverpool in the next season

The last season of the Barclays Premier League was just breathtaking as many of the teams surprised the big guns with their remarkable talent. The “underdogs” in the competition were; Manchester City, Aston Villa, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspurs.
No one really knew what these teams were capable of, until they saw the big upsets that took place. The team that took the biggest shock out of all the “top four,” was Liverpool. In the season of 2008, Liverpool were the runner ups of the English League, but in the previous season, they finished seventh.
With their coach Rafa Benitez leaving the club for Inter Milan, Roy Hodgson recently took charge of the club and is now trying to recruit new players into the team. In the previous season, Liverpool was criticized about the fact that they were a “two-man” team.
The fans saw the club playing with Gerrard and Torres only, as they were the only two men who were able to get the team out of trouble, but in the previous season the result was just not what Liverpool expected. With Torres left out on the bench for almost half of the season, and with Gerrard suffering from fitness crisis, the team had to struggle to remain in the top four as Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs, along with Aston Villa, were giving a tough time to every other team.
During this year, Liverpool’s new manager, Roy Hodgson has tried to strengthen his squad so that he can help the club regain its glory and gain a spot in the top four. With Mascherano still not sure whether he is going to stay in the club or not, and with Torres running with fitness crisis along with Gerrard, who was planning to go to Real Madrid and now he is not; Liverpool have a team that can actually surprise a lot of the big guns.
The new signing, Joe Cole, from Chelsea; and with Yossi Benayoun leaving the club for Chelsea, the team can actually form a perfect 4-2-3-1 formation with Torres being the “soul striker” for the club.
Torres scored 18 goals in 22 appearances, last season; and he can prove himself again if he can somehow jump out of his injury that he suffered in the final match of the FIFA World Cup 2010.
With their goalkeeper Pepe Reina all ready for a new season after coming back from a FIFA World Cup win, the team can start with a good season as they even have good full backs as well.
Glenn Johnson being the right back for the club, along with Skirtel and Carragher being the centre backs and with a left-back they need to buy, the team has a strong back bone which can prevent their opponents from scoring goals.
Coming to the midfield; Masherano is still confused about his future at the club; however, Lucas is the only player who can replace him in the defensive midfield. The other centre midfielder could be Alberto Aquilani who would help support Joe Cole on the right, Gerrard in the centre and Dirk Kuyt on the left hand side, right in front of him. The three attacking midfielders would help assist Fernando Torres, or even score themselves.
The players that can be substituted for Torres, as he suffers fitness crisis are, Ngog and Babel, who have been able to impress a little as they have scored a few goals in the previous season. The other players that are going to stay on the bench include the amazing Argentinean midfielder, Maxi Rodriguez, who has yet to prove his worth in the English club.
With a 4-2-3-1 formation of the club, the club can actually create good chances for scoring goals and they can even end up coming to the top four. With Roy Hodgson, the former Fulham manager, anything can happen.
He proved himself with a team like Fulham, which was not even filled with stars; but at Liverpool, the scenario is totally different. Liverpool is a club with a huge heritage and they can actually prove themselves in this season even if they had a disappointing season last year.
