Barclays Premier League Transfer Story That Could-Have-Been: Chelsea And Birmingham City
Presented here is a list of clubs and their transfer stories - with the transfer window closed just yesterday - and some deals that were made and some that could have been.
Chelsea
IN: Tomas Kalac, Yossi Benayoun, Majek Delac, Ramires
OUT: Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, Miroslav Stoch, Ricardo Carvalho, Juliano Belletti, Deco, Seth Nana Ofori-Twumasi, Jeffrey Ntuka, Liam Bridcutt, Jack Cork, Ryan Bertrand, Ben Gordon, Rhys Taylor, Danny Philliskirk
One of the best built squads in the English Premier League just got better. This move came around by removing Cole, Deco, Belletti and Ballack. In a total round-up Carlo Ancelotti removed players being paid around £500,000 per week and this was one swift move that will save the club around £24 million a year.
The Blues’ new signings have taken huge chunks out of that twenty four million save in the process of Ancelotti hiring Benayoun and Ramires. However, there still is a requirement of more players that can add to the current talent pool, but nothing was done in that matter and it is still unclear what the boss plans.
The young star from the Brazilian international team who dazzled the world with his performances is the eighteen year old Neymar. The player has come into another five year contract with Santos even though Chelsea went to him twice trying to sign him. It is believed that the player did not come because of personal reasons.
It is predicted that a bidding on this player again this winter seems highly unlikely, though one thing is clear that this player is under Ancelotti’s radar.
Another transfer that Chelsea tried to make possible is the move of Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid. This transfer did not take place, though a lot of people thought that the money being transferred was too less for the player in question and there was no way that Ramos would leave Real Madrid.
The transfer bid was made to tempt Jose Mourinho into transferring the player; Ramos plays as a centre-back and is an exceptional player despite his physique and lack of height.
There were also a lot of rumours going around saying that The Blues wanted to bag Bayern Munich’s Martin Demichelis, though this move was confusing to some, as the player is not one of the best centre-halves in football and has the tendency to expose himself in the game. The player did expose himself in the Champions League on numerous occasions and makes for a vital weakness in the game.
Didier Drogba is considered to be a long-term problem and Daniel Sturridge is the Blues’ striker who is in desperate need of some first time experience to bring on his ‘A-game’ and he is desperately needed to cover Drogba and Anelka.

Birmingham City
IN: Enric Valles, Ben Foster, Matt Derbyshire, Nikola Zigic
OUT: Artur Krysiak, Franck Queudrue, Gregory Vignal , Gary McSheffrey, Jake Jervis (Loan), Robin Shroot, Luke Hubbins, Jordon Mutch, Jacob Rowe, Shaun Timmins, Jared Wilson, Lee Carsley, Colin Doyle
Alex McLeish had a busy summer and kept looking to bring in a player if he could find a good bargain. McLeish was the last Rangers manager and he refused to budge in the bargaining of the Wigan playmaker, Charles N’Zogbia, and his deal was set on a nine million transfer.
The player’s agent called McLeish in the last hours to increase N’Zogbia’s weekly salary from forty to fifty thousand a week. It is fairly obvious that the boss declined that request.
Robbie Keane is also another choice that the manager had as Redknapp has been trying to make room for the Champions League forward.
Still McLeish missed out on two left-sided players this transfer season, N’Zogbia and Aiden McGeady. This is a problem with his team, as even if he decides to offer a lot of money, people still go on a loan to other clubs and don’t join them.
Another possibility was Armand Traore from Arsenal, as Wenger wanted to make sure that the player keeps playing in the English Premier League, but in the end, the player went on loan to Juventus.
