Barclays Premier League –West Ham United and Wigan Athletic (Review of the News)
WEST HAM UNITED
Harry Redknapp has claimed that he does not expect to make a move for the Hammers’ in-form midfielder Scott Parker. Tottenham have long been linked with a move for combative midfielder, but Harry said: "We haven't made any move for him. Midfield is the
only area where I don't have many options, we are really short there. I like Parker, but he belongs to West Ham. He will be 31 next birthday and they will want £15m. Daniel (Levy, chairman) wouldn't buy players of that age, on big wages with no sell-on."
However, West Ham United drew their last game against Everton with 1 goal to each side at Upton Park. Avram Grant’s men are currently in the relegation zone with seventeen points to their name out of 20 Premier League games. But, their recent impressive
form, in which they won the match against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Boxing and a recent draw against Everton, puts them only two points shy of going out of the relegation zone.
West Ham United will play their next match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are also in the relegation zone.
WIGAN ATHLETIC
The Latics skipper is desperate for a return to action after a horrendous season with injuries. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Caldwell-c14440 had operations on both hips in the summer, delaying his start to the campaign in the process.
Wigan Athletic captain has been struggling with several niggles after the operation and has not played a single game since the mid of the November.
However, Gary Caldwell now feels that is ready for some Barclays Premier League action after playing for reserves two weeks ago.
"It has been a nightmare," Gary Caldwell said. "Obviously getting the hips done was important for me in terms of prolonging my career but on the back of that there have been little niggles which I have picked up. When I come back I am going
to be hungry to do well. The Christmas period is the one where people can move up or down and hopefully we will be one of the teams moving in the right direction. It can have a big effect on your season. If we can pick up a few wins then we will be in a good
position come the new year."
Wigan Athletic won their last match against Mick McCarthy’s Wolverhampton Wanderers by two goals to one at Molineux. The Latics will play their next match tonight against Arsenal on their home.
Wigan Athletic has been already beaten by Arsene Wenger’s men in this season in the quarter-final of the Carling Cup by two goals at Emirates Stadium.
However, the Latics are currently placed 18th in the League standing with 19 points under their belt out of 18 games.
