Barclays Premier League news update - Arsenal and Aston Villa

According to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Thomas Vermaelen is close to a return to outdoor training in a few weeks time. However, Arsene Wenger acknowledges he will have to look closely at Vermaelen’s injury in the coming days before any decision can be made. The Belgian centre half is reported to return by the end of January but if Vermaelen is likely to be out for a longer duration than the end of this month, then Arsenal manager may buy a new centre half. 
Arsene Wenger stated, "Thomas is just on the fringe of getting back on the pitch again. The next ten days to two weeks will be an important test for him and hopefully he can get through well. We will see. At the moment everyone at the club looks positive but I will have to make a decision before the end of January."  
Arsenal were held to a nil-nil draw against Manchester City last Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners are currently placed third in the league standings, with 40 points to their name after 21 league games.
Arsenal will play their next match against Championship side, Leeds United, in a FA Cup fixture this weekend. Arsene Wengers’ men will face off against Ipswich Town in a Carling Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday. However, the Gunners are favorites to win this competition and if they manage to do so, it would be Arsenal’s first trophy in five years.
Arsenal’s next Premier League match is against West Ham United. The Gunners have already beaten West Ham United back in October by one goal at Emirates Stadium.
ASTON VILLA
It has been confirmed by the Villains manager, Gerard Houllier, that Aston Villa has signed Tottenham Hotspurs’ young defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Walker-c21566 on a loan deal. Walker will stay at Villa Park until the end of this season.

Kyle Walker will certainly take the position of Villa right back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luke-Young-c22938, who has been out of action due to a knee injury.
The young right-back of Tottenham Hotspurs spent first part of the 2010 season on loan at Championship League leaders, Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314.
Aston Villa are currently in the bottom zone at 17th position with 21 points to their credit out of 21 league games.
