Barclays Premier League weekly roundup - Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers
NEWCASTLE UNITED
The Football Association has confirmed a 3-match ban of the Newcastle United defensive midfielder, Cheik Tiote, following the dismissal of his appeal against a red card during Newcastle’s FA Cup third round defeat versus Stevenage at Broadhall Way.
24-year-old Tiote was shown a straight red for a rigorous tackle on Stevenage’s Jon Ashton in the second half of the match. The Toons filed an appeal but it was overturned by FA.
According to the statement put forward by the Football Association, "At a regulatory commission hearing, a claim for wrongful dismissal from Newcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote was rejected. As a result, Tiote's three-match suspension will remain in
place."
Newcastle United are currently placed eighth in the Barclays Premier League and have scored 28 points out of 21 league appearances.
The Toons bashed West Ham United by five goals at St James Park in their last Premier League match. The Magpies will play their next match against their city rivals Sunderland on January 16, 2011.
Alan Pardew’s army has already beaten Sunderland in this season of Barclays Premier League back in October; a fixture in which the Toons scored five goals, conceding only one.

weekend.
Milijas is hopeful that his team would be able to get a draw at least. He said, “It's so close - we know we can play a great game, lose and be bottom of the table. We know we must take points from the games - points are most important and that's what we're
trying to do. The players, the team and the gaffer don't deserve to go out of this division. We're much better than last season - players signed for this season have improved the squad and we've all learned a lot from last year.”
He added, “I think we deserve to stay up, but we just need to show to everyone in our results. On Saturday we played against a good footballing team who tried to pass the ball. To avoid defeat - especially away from home - is good for us because we remained
unbeaten and we have another chance. Now we must think about the Man City game and try to take points from that one. It will be a very hard game but we took three points against them at home and we'll try to get something at their place too.”
Mick McCarthy’s men are currently placed 17th in the Barclays Premier League standings with 21 points to their credit out of 21 league games.
