Barclays bank charge query which has gone to investigation, have you ever won?

I got hit by four £8 'guaranteed payment' fees on my Barclays current account.I'd gone a fiver over and my buffer has gone so I've been told.

Apparently the charging system has changed.

I queried the charge and was told it was correct then called back and was put on hold for about 20 minutes whilst the woman tried to work out the charges then a further 5 or so whilst her manager also tried to make sense of them.

Eventually I was told that neither of them could understand why 4 charges had been made and it was being sent for an investigation.

I will get a letter recording the query an a day or so then hear in about five days.

It has taken over an hour in total to get this far.

If there has been a mistake what is likely to happen?

If I just got two charges refunded would I have cause for further complaint, how am I supposed to understand when I would get charged if they don't seem to understand themselves?

Any experiences or ideas please?

Thanks.

  1. I do know that you can make a complaint to the FSA if you aren`t happy with the outcome. (They have a website) Also you can get a lot of helpful financial advice on moneysavingexpert.com and ask questions on their forums if the answer isn`t already there.

  2. go into your branch  but make an appointment and tell them how much time you are willing to spend on this or you will report them to the banking ombudsman. I am a Barclay's Premier customer and also Barclay's private wealth customer. Three weeks ago i asked for a transfer of funds into an account i use for purchasing foreign currency and it should have been in the account 7 days before i needed it - i just do it this way. However, i issued a payment and the funds weren't there and i was hauled into the branch office when i remonstrated over their inefficiency on going to collect currency and they said i had insufficient funds! A quiet and quick call to head office sorted that out and that is also what you need to do and make sure you get a total refund for your time etc.!
