Why? I did everything the same as always.. This is about a week that I've had him. He's an all-white dwarf, and he let me hold him yesterday and the day before... And no, i did not have food in my hand or scented soap.

  1. Hamsters are mean like that. Take him back and get a rat, they make great pets. They are very friendly and smart, and also very clean!!!

It doesn't matter if you startle rats, they just don't bite. Who wants a pet you have to tiptoe around so you don't get bit. Thats stupid!!

  2. The hamster was probably at first to scared to act and now it isn't. You should look up on google "How to tame your new hamster" I got good results when I needed them...

  3. You might have scared him.  Hamsters who are sleeping are more apt to bite than ones who are alert when you touch them.

When you approach his cage, make sure he's awake and alert.  I do this by tapping gently on the cage to wake them if I need to hold them or clean their cages.

NEVER and I repeat NEVER stick your hand in the cage while your hamster is sleeping, they WILL bite you if they are startled.  It's been my experience with dwarf hamsters that they tend to startle and then bite quicker than syrian hamsters.

Good luck.  Don't give up on your new pal.
