  1. Best tips to get great deals on instruments;

    1. cash is king! offering to pay cash instead of credit card can knock another 5% off an already great deal! credit card companies charge the merchant a fee and the card user a fee plus the interest charge. Push the question, "if I pay cash, can we lower the price even further"?

    2. pricing;

    you have manufacturers list price= (what they say the vendor should sell it for)

    sale price =(what the merchant advertises as their price)

    real price=(what the mechants bottom amount they will take for the instrument is.)

    3. Most places like guitar center pay a comission for sales-so the salesman has incentive to sell you whatever you want. this means that the price includes whatever the sales comission is too! =more room to haggle if the salesman is willing to give up some of their comission to make some money.

    4. Playing beat the ad,...bring in any advertised sale of same item, the worst you can do is end up buying it from the company that advertised it.

    5. markup;

    there is at least a 40% markup automatically on every list price, this means that if you pay full price-you are a fool.

    6. buy in bulk; if you need accesories (strings, picks, reeds etc.) and you buy in large quantity-you can push for a deal.

  2. Trust me on this one -- I have bought many guitars from stores including Guitar Center, and the price has always been negotiable.  Your best bet is to print out the online ad and take it to the store.  Chances are they'll sell it to you for the online price to make the sale.
