  1. Josh L,

This is a question that most, or perhaps ALL, beginner ukulele players ponder.

It's all according to sound......and how big your hands are.  A larger ukulele will give you more volume with a fuller deeper sound and if you're a big guy you'll find it easier to chord.  I have small hands and have all sizes, but I like the concert best.

The ukulele comes in four sizes http://www.ukuleleworld.com/home.php?cat...

As you can see the Baritone is the largest of the ukulele family.  However, it's not tuned the same.  It's tuned like the first four strings of a guitar and  I think it should be called a four string guitar.  (You can buy strings and tune it like a regular ukulele. http://www.ukuleleworld.com/pages.php?pa...  A soprano, concert, or tenor uke are mostly C tuned.  GCEA  The G is the G above middle C on a piano...thus higher in pitch than the 3rd string, C.http://www.ukuleleworld.com/pages.php?pa...

Another suggestion.  If you're in the market to buy a ukulele try a Lanikai with geared tuners.  Lanikai makes good ukuleles at great prices.  And geared tuners because they're easier when it comes to tuning than friction.  http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigatio...

Sorry if this is lengthy....but you asked a very, very good question.

Hey, another idea.  Check and see if there's a local ukulele club around your area and see what other people are playing.  http://www.ukuleleclubs.com/  It's also fun playing in a group.

    Remember....geared tuners!

    Enjoy,
