Question:

Baritone saxophone problem?

I started playing bari sax in my school's jazz band for the first time today, and something was wrong with it. A lot of my notes seemed to be on the wrong octave, but I knew I was fingering everything correctly. For instance, I was playing the F blues scale (D, F, G, G#, A, C, D, and back down), and the notes with the register key sounded way off.

Our best sax player took a look at it, and couldn't find what was wrong with it. I know it'll get fixed, but what's wrong with it?

  1. musicians that are new to the instrument often experience what I call "frogging". that's where the instrument jumps octaves due to incorrect air flow, or jaw structure on low notes, (jaw must be low-articulate "toe" for low g on down).

if it is just the notes with the octave key depressed that are problematic, then the octave key is outta whack.
