Bark split and came off trunk of october glory maple tree?

Bark came completely off the trunk all around the trunk. Has anyone else ever had this problem?

  1. Repeated freezing and thawing over winter can cause this.  

    If the bark is completely gone all around the trunk, I'm sorry, but your tree isn't going to survive.
