The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues snapped Tranquillo Barnetta on a free transfer earlier this summer after the midfielder refused to sign a new deal with Bayer Leverkusen. There were some other German clubs in the race to sign him but the fact that
Schalke will be playing in Europe next season would have been a factor in the transfer.
Barnetta admitted that he had a long thought regarding his future when he was out injured for most part of the last season. The midfielder insisted that when Schalke came with the offer, he made his mind to move on for a new challenge
in his career.
The Swiss international is excited on the prospect of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season and is looking forward to the opportunity. He is eager to cement his place in the starting line-up amid tough competition in
the centre of midfield.
“I was out injured for a long while last season and I spent the time thinking about where things should go from here. Then Schalke came in with an offer. I was excited by the prospect of playing for a top club in the Champions
League next season. It was an opportunity I had to seize,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the player admitted that it was hard to leave Bayer Leverkusen after spending eight years with the club. He stated that he still has a very good relationship with the club management and thanked the Werkself
fans for all the support.
“I had a great time at Leverkusen and the relationship with the club and management was always positive and honest. There was certainly a bit of sadness attached to leaving, but now I'm really looking forward to the new challenge
at Schalke,” he concluded.
