Barney faces the Power of darts at Belfast
The showdown is ready to take place at Belfast. With McCoy Premier League getting underway, exciting encounters between the best of darts world is about to get into action.
One of such encounters is about to take place between the 15-time champion Phil Taylor and the Dutch darts star Raymond van Barneveld.
Both players, with the passage of time that they have spent in mainstream darts, have undergone various crests and troughs.
However, there remains no doubt that in the case of Barney the percentage of stumbling surpasses others.
The two for long have been archrivals on the oche. Similarly, both of them have been trying to revamp their career.
Taylor, after facing a knock out at Ladbrokes, was able to attain catharsis in the form of grabbing the World Cup for England while partnering with Adrian ‘Jackpot’ Lewis.
Nevertheless, he will only get satisfied once he has succeeded in clinching the Premier League trophy.
In his opening encounter against the reigning champion Adrian Lewis, ‘The Power’ was able to make a spectacular comeback after an early lead attained by the champion.
Just when it seemed that Taylor had lost it, he made an extraordinary leap to vanquish the oche. It was simply a treat for the audience to see the rise of the ‘King of darts’.
On the other hand, when considering the case of van Barneveld, there are a couple of factors that need to be kept under limelight.
First and foremost being that Barney has not been able to enjoy an eventful period in darts since the beginning of this year.
At the beginning of the darts season, Barney was in constant consultation with veteran darts player Eric Bristow.
He approached him to discuss ways through the help of which he can improve his game.
However, with the onset of Ladbrokes World Darts Championship, it was witnessed that his game saw no remarkable improvement, as he had to face an early disqualification.
His next step turned out to be more dangerous, as he was considering the option of quitting darts to pursue his former job of a postman.
According to experts his consistently deteriorating performance forced him to consider this option.
Secondly, other Dutch players junior to him like Co Stompe and van Gerwen and their improving performances testified that maybe his time on the oche is over.
Nevertheless, sidelining all those alternatives Barney is aiming for a comeback.
His performance at McCoy has so far been impressive but when it comes to Taylor there are certain reservations about the winner.
So far both of them have played 45 games out of which Phil has been victorious in 35. Hence, greater vote of favour lies at Taylor’s end.
