Barney on the brink of quitting
One of the best Dutch players of darts and a top tier contestant in British darts, Raymond van Barneveld acknowledged that he was on the brink of bidding farewell to darts after a knock out at the World Championships back in December.
He further said that in his campaign opening encounter against James Richardson, the latter posed a serious blow to his performance.
He started to have second thoughts regarding the ways he began to eye his future in the game of darts.
The 44-year-darts player said, “That was a poor day in my career. After that I didn’t watch the World Championship for three or four days and seriously I was thinking of quitting because I was thinking ‘what’s the use?’”
It is also important to mention here that Barney just before the onset of the mega event was in direct negotiations with the veteran darts player Eric Bristow.
He wanted to learn the skills through the application of which he could sharpen his game and revive his slumping reputation and credibility in the game.
However, even after investing adequate effort he could not perform the way he anticipated. Hence, he decided to quit the game forever.
He further said that he was once again looking towards going back to his career of serving as the postman.
Barney got off a good start in the World Championship with his colleague and fellow countrymen Vincent van der Voort.
However, his winning streak in the event could only prevail fleetingly, as he soon had to face departure from the championship after facing defeat at the hands of Aussie darts star Whitlock.
On the other hand, pundits believe that Barney is simply lacking consistency in his attitude at the present moment.
He is not the first player who has experienced a tough phase in his career. Taking the example of the 15-time champion Phil Taylor, it is said that he lost to an amateur Dave Chisnall at Ladbrokes.
Barney needs to concentrate on his game and get a grip on his nerve so that he does not feel the pressure when standing on the oche against a player of his calibre.
