Baron Davis, David West, Elton Brand: Players expected to be in new teams next NBA season: Part 2
Baron Davis
The Cleveland Cavaliers trade for the veteran point guard Baron Davis midway through the last season also gave them Los Angeles Clippers’ first round selection. The pick turned out to be the number four selection in the 2011 NBA
Draft and the Cavaliers landed Tristan Thompson.
Considering that the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) includes the amnesty clause, the Cleveland Cavaliers will most probably use it on the 32-year-old Davis, who earns a huge pay cheque.
It does not mean that, Baron Davis in not a great player. His departure seems more imminent because, the Cavaliers roped in Kyrie Irving with the number one pick, and they will definitely want to give their rookie point guard maximum
minutes on the floor. A costly Baron Davis and too with a comfortable seat on the bench give them nothing.
David West
Gifted power forward David West opted out of his final year of contract with the New Orleans Hornets to become a free agent. Although West has expressed desire to join a championship contender, he has not ruled out the possibility
to re-sign with the franchise.
The decision from David came three days before the NBA locked out its players. Over the course of the last few months, there have been reports suggesting that New Jersey Nets and Indiana Pacers are interested to have the big man
on board. However, in actuality, these are not the only teams, which need a good power forward. Chicago Bulls can certainly use a good option at this position and so can the aging Boston Celtics.
David West has spent the last few seasons with the one of the best point guard Chris Paul in the New Orleans Hornets and proved his substantial contribution both as a scorer and rebounder. Considering West will be a free agent
in the next season when the lockout is lifted, he has more chances to be picked up with some other NBA team rather than Hornets.
Elton Brand
Signing with Philadelphia 76ers, the 32-year-old power forward Elton Brand put up good numbers in the last season and showed that he still has some good years left in him. The 11-year veteran played 81 games and registered an average
of 15.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
However, considering Elton Brand is in the final phases of his career, he won’t stay as athletic and versatile like he always was.
In case, the amnesty clause comes with the new CBA, the Philadelphia 76ers will have a chance to use it on Elton Brand as they have signed him for the maximum contract. For Sixers who are looking to go up the ladder in the play-offs,
Brand is not a suitable choice for a long-term period due to his age.
Elton Brand will be perfect for a team who needs some veteran guidance for a short period. That is why the NBA superstar might be seen in a different team with the start of the 2011-2012 season.
