Question:

Barre chords are killing me , can you help?

Well , i can do them sitting down , but when i stand up my hand wont go around the neck comfortably , therefore i am unable to play the chord!

  1. Try adjusting your strap so the guitar is in a more comfortable position.


  2. It's hard to help you without being able to see what you are doing, but you can try this:

    Place your hand in barre chord position. Use an easy barre chord like E Major. Keeping  your hand in position, stand up. What is different? Do you feel any pain? Keep in mind that your thumb should be in the center of the back of the neck, and you should aply as much pressure as necessary so that all strings sound clearly.

    One thing you might try is to visit a guitar shop and start a conversation with a sales person. Sooner or later, you can slip your problem into the conversation and maybe they'll be able to help you out. Salespeople generally like this kind of attention so don't be afraid to ask.
