Question:

Barrel Size On Curling Tongs?

by  |  earlier

I'm looking to get some curling tongs, but i'm confused with the barrel size for my type of hair...

I'm choosing between 13mm barrel and a 19mm barrel.... My hair is layered with bangs, the shortest length being above my shoulders, and longest being just past my shoulders by about an inch or so....

I want my tongs to just curl the ends, and perhaps all over for a night out or something..... I HAVE GHDs, and i DONT like using them for curling....

Thanks :)

  1. if you want big bouncy curls go for the bigger size.

if you want a tighter curl go for the smaller one.

there is no right or wrong size, it depend of the effect you want and for how long it has to last. (the tighter one will last longer)

  2. A wider barrel will give you loose, bouncy curls, whereas a small barrel will give tighter curls and make your hair appear shorter. For you (without actually seeing you) I would say the larger barrel, 19mm (or 22mm if you can) as the 13mm will make your shorter layers look even shorter, and the curls will not be as manageable.

  3. I think that a small barrel would be good for just the ends.

i know what style you mean + i have done it before with my nicky clarke tongs, they have a really skinny barrel :)

If your from the uk, look in argos...nicky clarke tongs. youll see them, there black + red + dead skinny ! =] x*x

  4. A larger barrel will probably give curls about like this

This is one that was probably used with a smaller one:

So, it all depends on what style your going more for. I would personally go for the 19 mm barrel. It won't make your hair look as short. Hope this helps! Cheers!
