Barrichello jubilant to celebrate 300th race of career
This weekend marks the 300th race of Rubens Barrichello, who happily looks back at his career with no regrets in his heart.
At the Belgian Grand Prix, this weekend he is to pass another hallmark of his career. However, there is debate about the exact figure of Barrichello’s races.
The difference of opinion in the number of races is because some count only those races that were actually started by the racer. While there are others who count every race in which he was involved in, even if he came at some part during the weekend. If it comes to starting a race only, and excluding the ones in which he came in at some later part in the weekend, replacing some other driver, than the count is 296 races.
Regardless, the racer is already celebrating as he proudly wore a t-shirt, this Thursday with a speedometer sign that had a needle hitting the 300 mark.
The 38-year-old racer had taken part in 36% of all World Championship races since Formula One began in the year 1950. There have been a total of 832 races all together.
While talking about his time in the sport he declared that he still feels "powerful," which actually disturbs his wife, Silvana immensely as she is terrified that he is going to race forever.
The racer’s long journey had been filled with triumphs, trials and tribulations, which peaked during his time at Ferrari, when he had to pull back to give Michael Schumacher first place. But Barrichello looks back over the years with joy and contentment.
He stated that all the difficulties of his career made him learn something or the other which he calls to be the secret of his longevity.
He was happy to say that he had grown bit by bit, improving gradually over time and he believes the process is still going on.
"I've always been honest with myself. When you make a mistake, you make a mistake, and you say so, and I think the teams I've driven for appreciate that”, he said.
Moreover, he proclaimed that many people say he had not been able to win a World Championship, however, he feels that he had learned so much and kept being better.
While talking about various experiences in his life he said that the worst of all was the time when he fought to make his place in Ferrari. But the day he felt he would not be given the deserved place he was quick to find something else.
However, he added that despite all that happened he had a great driving experience with Ferrari as he was provided with a great car and he was able to win races with them as well.
Continuing about his experiences, he said that he was given a lot of support when he raced for Jordan and Stewart. He had a lot of fun and joy but the cars were not as good as Ferrari. Only then he understood that one could not have it all at one time.
Barrichello, while talking about his dreams and desires for the future, declared that he still dreams of being crowned Champion one day, which is the biggest driving force for him.
So far the Brazilian has 11 victories and 14 poles under his belt. He hopes to increase the tally before he leaves the sport.
He concluded by saying that he does not know when he would want to leave the sport as he never thinks he would, “I don't know. I feel it's going to be a hard decision to say I'm going to stop".
"I still aim to be World Champion", Barrichello concluded.
