Barrichello says McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton should not bother about critics – Formula 1 news
Rubens Barrichello of Williams believes that Lewis Hamilton of the Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes team should not bother much about the criticism that he receives.
He said he should concentrate on building his driving strategy and stick to his goals regardless of what others think.
Hamilton is probably the only driver who has attracted so much attention from the media in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season and has been the centre of criticism from drivers and race stewards who have expressed their anger and dissatisfaction over his risky
driving repeatedly.
Barrichello said that for Hamilton to revitalise and bounce back with renewed confidence it is very important that he should set priorities for himself by weighing out options available, and then work towards his goal with discipline and motivation.
Since Hamilton has always been ranked amongst the top drivers, expectations are huge and therefore even a single mistake he makes is eyed with so much criticism.
Prior to the 2011 Korean Grand Prix, Hamilton said that he is optimistic of a good show, and he understands that he has not been able to perform to the level that he aims at since a long time now. The Brit expects that with the Korean Grand Prix he will
be able to deliver better results than past. He really appreciates the way his team has supported him.
Highlighting the importance of teambuilding and team spirit, Hamilton said, “I think I have quite a unique relationship with the team and regardless of how tough a year it has been or how many problems we have had. They continue to support me and it is great
to see that when they are having tough times us as drivers, me and Jenson, are able to lift them and vice versa.”
Hamilton currently sits at 5th position on the drivers’ standings with 178 points from the 16 races held in the season so far. With 4 races still to go, the 26-year-old Briton can still prove to his critics that he has all the qualities
of a seasoned Formula 1 driver within himself.
Let’s see how Hamilton’s Formula 1 career progresses from here onwards.
